Simeon Stafford (b. 1956)

Simeon Stafford (b. 1956) first met LS Lowry when he was 14 and Lowry encouraged him to paint; he became a close family friend and a constant source of inspiration. There is nothing ponderous or deeply meaningful about Stafford’s work; there is no soul-searching or political message; his world consists of bustling scenes of humour and spontaneous fun painted in vibrant colours. On close inspection many of his pictures feature reoccurring figures such as Ruby with plaits, skipping; Dot, the little girl doing cart-wheels (his aunt as a child) and Trixie the family Jack Russell. Stafford’s paintings are highly collectable and apparently have been acquired by the ex Prime Minister Tony Blair MP and even HM the Queen.
