After a long cold winter of rain and floods, we don’t want to speak too soon, but Spring is probably here now. We’ve noticed that the sophisticated ‘faux-naïf’ works by one of our favourite artists Fred Yates, seem to have encapsulated the last few months.
The Winter ShowOur latest exhibition The Winter Show in Mayfair’s St George’s Street, confirmed that decorative pieces sell; that is, paintings by artists who are not household names but who are getting there. However it was abundantly clear that more and more people want to buy ‘names’, in other words known artists with a proven track record.
Julian-Christophers-pink-flowers-brown-vaseBuying pictures is fun, exciting and they make unique Christmas presents for art-lovers.  Buying a picture for a friend or partner is an expression of how you feel about them.  It shows you have given your gift thought, not just another pair of socks or navy blue jumper.
We’re very excited about our new exhibition in the heart of London this Christmas; this time it’s in the beautiful and elegant shop of Shapero Rare Books (32 St George Street, London W1S 2EA).  We’ve joined forces with Bernard Shapero from 5-20 December to offer The Winter Show, an eclectic and interesting mix spanning antiquarian books, prints and modern and contemporary art.
We're thrilled to have found the archetypal ‘feel good’ picture by Fred Yates.  A French Country Garden is an explosion of colour and vitality, it has never been on the market before and it is even double-sided, so you get two pictures for the price of one!
Vanessa Clewes Salmon Modern & Contemporary Art is rejuvenated and revitalised! We have emerged from hibernation and we hope you like our new website. Following our very successful foray into Cork Street at the Art for Art’s Sake Show last December, we’re delighted to be at the 20/21 International Art Fair at the Royal College of Art, in Kensington Gore, London SW7, from 9 - 12 May 2013.
